Course Details

Workplace violence is often unrecognized by employers as a workplace hazard,  though it can impact both a worker’s safety and their mental health. Employers are responsible to put controls in place to mitigate the impact of workplace violence of all kinds.  One administrative control we recommend is training workers to recognize potentially violent situations, and offer them advice for how to de-escalate these situations before they become physically hazardous.

This short e-learning session offers basic advice from experienced security professionals, to help prepare hospitality workers who may be faced with aggressive behavior from guests, customers or other members of the public.

This training was made possible thanks to the Alberta OHS Innovation & Engagement Grant, and is free for AHLA safety subscribers and associate members.  It is recommended for all levels of staff.

Prerequisites: None

Certificate of Completion: will be available after the session is successfully completed
